Haunted House
Cover a milk carton with black
paper. Cut a black rectangle of paper @ 6"x9". Fold in half,
staple the crease to the top of the milk carton. Using the exacto knife, cut two
windows and one door. (This is done
ahead by parent volunteers.) Each student creates a fence by glueing popsicle
sticks starting at the
door, circling around the milk carton and ending up at the other side of the
door. A plastic spider can be glued on the fence. Students glue pre-cut shapes
(bat, witch, ghost, cat) on the milk carton. (The shapes can be bought or cut
from fun foam, felt, or paper.) Glue a large yellow full moon on the peak of the
roof. Stick on any Halloween stickers that are available.
Witch Hand
Each child receives a latex glove. Push five candy corn into the end of each
finger to look like fingernails. Air pop popcorn. Fill the glove with popcorn.
Close the top of the glove with an elastic. You can attach a string to the top
of the glove to hang if you wish.
Marshmallow Glove
Wrap a Kleenex over a marshmallow. Gather Kleenex under the marshmallow and tie
with a twist-tie, elastic, or string, Use a black marker to draw eyes and a
mouth.
Party
The students were placed into multi-aged groups and rotated through the stations
at fifteen minute intervals. The stations were set up in adjoining
classrooms.
Station 1 - Free Reading and Listening in the Haunted House
The house in the kindergarten room was set up as a haunted house. It was wrapped
in black paper and the roof was draped in black fabric. White chalk was used to
draw decorations on the black paper, white pare ghosts were attached and dollar
store garland was attached. Plastic jack o’lantern with light bulbs are
plugged in and placed inside the haunted house to light up the house. A large
selection of Halloween books are
placed in the house for free reading. A tape recorder with head phones and
Halloween books on tape are also placed in the house.
Halloween Playdough and Cookie
Cutters
Put out green and black playdough and a variety of Halloween cookie cutters. Let
the students make shapes.
Sort Halloween Erasers
Place a large variety of Halloween erasers in a sorting tray. The students sort
the erasers into like categories.
Halloween Sewing
Put out an assortment of purchased Halloween lace up cards. The students sew the
cards with colored shoelaces.
Station 2 Halloween Tea Light
Give each student a baby food jar. Cut small squares of orange tissue paper with
a paper slicer. Paint the outside of the jar with white glue. Crush tissue paper
squares into a ball. Press it onto the jar. Continue
in this way until you have covered most of the jar. Cut small squares of black
tissue paper with a paper slicer and crush them into a ball. Glue them on to
form two eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Fill in any gaps with orange paper. Put a
tea light into the bottom of the jar.
Station 3 - Games in the Gym
Shave the Balloon
Blow up balloons. Hang a balloon from a string attached to the roof. Cover the
floor with plastic bags. Let the students wear paint shirts. Parent volunteers
cover the balloon with shaving cream and the students shave the balloon with
disposable razors. (Surprisingly, very few
balloons pop!)
Spider Ball
Purchase several large spiders from the dollar store. The students throw the
spiders through the basketball hoops.
Pumpkin Bowling
Cover plastic bowling pins with paper ghosts. Roll small pumpkins along the
floor to knock over the pins.
Hoop Throw
Hang hoops from the roof. Cover the hoops with fake spider webs. The students
stand back behind a predetermined line and throw witches hats through the hoops.
Station 4 - Halloween Bingo
Go to the Crayola website @ www.crayola.com Download Halloween bingo cards.
Photocopy 1 card per student. The teacher makes master cards to hold up during
the game. Each student must make his/her own card by gluing pieces down to make
a unique card. The students color the bingo square when it is called. The
winning student wins a Halloween eraser. Continue to play the game until each
student receives an eraser.
